replacing the black vinyl stripes

Postby Moondance » Sun Apr 05, 2020 7:53 pm

Does anybody have experience with removing and replacing the black decorative lines / tape, which are part of the original cabin finish?
It might be more challenging perhaps to completely remove them and clean the fiberglass than I think before replacing them?
Thanks in advance for your comments.

Hi,

A heat gun and a little patience will do the trick. Prior to replace with new vinyl wipe down with MEK or acetone.

Auto parts stores sell a wheel that looks like a grinding wheel but is made of a special rubber. It has a spindle to fit an electric drill. It is made for this exact purpose, removing vinyl stripes and decals from vehicles. It works just as well on gelcoat.

I removed and replaced my waterline stripes with this tool (it wears out as you use it, much like a pencil eraser).

Removing the stripes is easier than replacing them and getting them straight.
