Help can’t decide.

Postby Uboatcdr » Wed Oct 21, 2020 11:32 am

My wife and I have been talking about retirement cruising and what that means. We have had an opportunity to ride in a Camano a few years back and have looked at another. We would like to be able to cruise to Alaska and maybe ship a boat to the east coast do the great loop and maybe the Bahamas. The three boats I am looking at are the American tug 34, most likely out of our price range. The Nordic tug 32 plus, a little easier but still tough to justify and of course the Camano 31. I know it is a well built boat, but am afraid we would find it or feel it to be too small. I was told to buy my second boat first as you would be happier in the end. Looking for advice as I will most likely only be able to do this once. I guess my question is are you truly happy with your boats. Do you feel safe in it enough to take it to Alaska. I understand that you have to watch the weather and all things that go along with that. You can find them all over the map from $69000 to $145000. I think $100,000
Is a good a average. Still a lot of money for the working guy.

Thanks for your insight.

After lots of boat shows the Camano was at the top of my list.

So I went out and rented one for a week, I enjoyed the week and I could see how well I fit the boat, what it was like to dock the boat at strange marinas and how well it handled in 25 knot winds and 2-3 ft. seas.

And all that told me that I was making a good decision for the price.

Good luck !

Hi Pete, I don't know if your looking for your first boat or not but why don't you send your e-mail and I'll try to add some perspective about the different boats you've mentioned.

We are happy with our Camano Troll and have been cruising on it for twelve years. We've never taken it to Alaska though.
